Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation

The Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation was formed to save this architectural marvel and share its remarkable legacy. The Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation, established in 2015, is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) public nonprofit organization dedicated to stabilizing, restoring, and opening this historic structure to the public for the first time. Their mission extends beyond preservation – their goal is to make the Bolivar Point Lighthouse a living classroom, offering educational and cultural programs that explore the history, architecture, and maritime heritage of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation offers a variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities for those passionate about preserving a vital piece of Texas maritime history. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization, driving critical fundraising initiatives like the “Refuge to Restoration” step-sponsorship campaign and the sale of commemorative bricks and merchandise. Those with a knack for marketing and outreach can assist in building public awareness and sharing the lighthouse’s 150-year legacy through social media and community engagement. Additionally, the foundation relies on volunteers to coordinate special events, such as National Lighthouse Day celebrations and Bolivar Point Lighthouse Anniversary Event, which are essential for securing the $1.4 million needed to restore the iconic top of the lighthouse and return the light to the coast.

Depending on your skills and availability, you can support the foundation in the following areas:

  • Fundraising & Development: Assist with grant writing, donor relations, or managing commemorative brick and step-sponsorship programs.
  • Marketing & Communications: Help manage social media accounts, create newsletters, and promote the “Save the Light” mission to a broader audience.
  • Special Events: Provide on-site support for community events, merchandise sales, and historical tours (as restoration progress allows).
  • Administrative Support: Help with data entry, volunteer coordination, and general office tasks to keep the non-profit running smoothly.
