The mission of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners is to encourage and support the horticultural community of Southeast Texas through education and example.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Educating children through participation in STEAM Camp, Ghosts and Goblins (Beaumont Botanical Gardens), Mr. Etouffee (program to teach children from where their food comes, and many others.
Allowing young adults exposure to gardening through Lamar University’s Big Event.
Providing classes such as making your own rain barrel, understanding the types of irrigation systems, rose pruning, tree care, and more. These classes are open to the general public.
Educating members by offering the opportunity to work at their test garden, speaking opportunities, field trips and monthly meetings at which we have a 30 minute informational program.
They relish working for different communities. They plant tulips in Nederland for the Heritage Festival and have taken responsibility for caring for the garden beds at the Veterans Memorial Park. Their members assist local gardens – Seeds for Needs, Giving Field, Port Arthur Community Garden and Beaumont Botanical Gardens.
