Tyrrell Park Nature and Visitors Center

The Tyrrell Park Nature Center’s mission is to provide understanding, appreciation and conservation of nature with a focus on wetlands through educational and recreational outreach to all ages and all people as well as share the unique history of the park, its historic structures, and its recreational components. Tyrrell Park Nature Center (TPNC) is operated by the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) offers free educational programs and interactive presentations throughout the year for children ages 6 and older.

School Field Trips/Homeschool Groups/Adult Presentations

• Customizable tours of our historic building and nature-focused hands-on activities for small groups of 30 or less must be scheduled in advance for elementary, middle and high school grades, in addition to adult/senior presentations. Using inquiry-based strategies and interactive engagement, each program is designed for students to explore a nature-related topic through an interactive presentation, hands-on experiment and related arts craft. Contact Nature Center Manager for available topics and date(s) selection bookings. No charge for tours/presentations, but advance registration and scheduling is required.

Public Programming

• Nature Explorers: Periodically, on Select Saturdays, our free program, “Nature Explorers” is a time when Families can drop in anytime between 10am – 1pm on the specific Saturday dates, to learn interesting facts while having fun, do a “make & take” and explore that month’s nature topic. Each Nature Explorers’ Saturday Session will be set up with a couple of stations for an interactive science experiment & nature-based craft that relates to that month’s topic. Volunteers are available to guide families with hands-on activities. Rotation between stations is self-paced and designed as “come and go” program. Crafts will be available while supplies last. The Nature, Science, and Arts Interactives are geared primarily towards children ages 6 to 11 years-old; but All are Welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
• Hoo’s There? An Interactive Workshop about Owls Where Students solve the Owl Mystery by using Owl Pellets and Bones:  This is an ANNUAL nature science activity for children ages 8-11 years old (Fourth-Fifth Grade Level), usually held in October during Museum Madness Weekend. While free, seats are limited, and reservations are required.  Child must be accompanied by a parent/adult chaperone and Adult to REMAIN with child during presentation.
• Stargazing Events: Held once or twice a year, dates are selected based upon the astronomical events occurring in the night sky. This periodic night sky viewing activity is held both in the front parking lot of the Nature Center with telescopes from various community groups, space/astronomical related activities inside and night insect and moth viewing activities in back courtyard of Nature Center. These Nature Center’s Stargazing Events are a joint project and collaboration with the Big Thicket National Park, Village Creek State Park, Beaumont Children’s Museum, Astronomical Society of Southeast Texas and the Sabine -Neches Chapter, Texas Master Naturalists.
