Nonprofit Startup Support Initiative

The Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center is proud to announce a special opportunity for emerging nonprofit founders in Southeast Texas. 

Through funding provided by CenterPoint Energy, we are selecting two (2) organizations to receive comprehensive nonprofit formation support designed to take them from early concept to fully recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. 

This initiative provides hands-on technical assistance, structured guidance, and step-by-step support through the entire nonprofit formation process in Texas.

• Mission and program development support
• Step-by-step Texas nonprofit formation guidance
• Drafting of Certificate of Formation
• EIN registration assistance
• Customized bylaws and startup governance policies
• Board development and governance coaching
• Assistance with IRS Form 1023-EZ preparation
• Texas state tax exemption guidance
• Comprehensive nonprofit startup toolkit

Note: Organizations are responsible for all required state and federal filing fees.

Program Timeline
Selected organizations will enter a guided formation process with the goal of completing 501(c)(3) formation by Spring 2027. 

Who Should Apply
This opportunity is designed for:

• Emerging nonprofit founders
• Grassroots community leaders
• Informal groups ready to become a legal nonprofit
• Organizations not yet registered as 501(c)(3)s

Applicants must be located in Southeast Texas and committed to completing the full nonprofit formation process. 

Applicant Commitment
Selected organizations must agree to: 

• Actively participate in the formation process
• Meet required milestones and deadlines
• Complete Texas incorporation and IRS filing steps
• Maintain consistent communication throughout the process
• Work toward full 501(c)(3) status by Spring 2027
